Rob Young
Rob Young.

Rob Young has been birding more or less daily since an epiphany moment during a school visit to the RSPB headquarters in Bedfordshire, England at age seven. In the intervening decades, he has looked through binoculars at many wonderful species ranging from Anhinga to Zebra Finches in locations ranging from Arizona to Zimbabwe.

In the 1990s, Rob served as county bird recorder in Hertfordshire, England and co-authored the book 'Birds At Tring Reservoirs' (HNHS, 1996), also taking part in many national and local surveys and studies throughout England. Since moving to the US over 10 years ago, Rob has continued survey work and can regularly be found at Riverbend Park, in Fairfax County, Virginia just outside Washington, DC. In conjunction with his wife Chrystal, he runs a program there of walks and surveys in addition to volunteering at the park's Visitor Center. Rob also helps organize and run fields trips with Riverbend Park management to top birding sites in the region.

Rob has a fascination for migration and a passion for gulls and waterfowl, with a number of local rarity records to his name. Rob enjoys not only helping others locate birds of all sorts, but sharing his knowledge of birds' habits, behavior, and habitat. He has completed the Cornell University's Home Study Course in Bird Biology Program and is a certified Virginia Master Naturalist.

When birding with us you can expect a good humored, knowledgeable, and patient leader with a true appreciation for birds and natural history.
